*Job Description:*

**

American Axle is the leading Tier-One global automotive supplier of 
driveline and drivetrain systems and related components for light 
trucks, SUVs, passenger cars, crossover vehicles and commercial 
vehicles. They are looking for a Senior Systems Admin for a 6 month 
contract to hire due to a back fill for someone they let go on their 
team - working on getting name. Ideally they would like this individual 
to have 7+ years of experience supporting Linux servers. American Axle 
has over 200 Linux servers and this person will need to know how to do 
troubleshooting, patching, monitoring, and documentation (Vizio) for 
servers on RedHat and SUSE and HPUX. American Axle is using Shell as 
their current scripting language, it would be preferred this person can 
script from scratch. This person will also need to have 3+ years of 
experience with SAN arrays, Fiber Channel switches or and SAN switches 
as well as OVM. This individual will need to have a bachelors degree and 
it would be an added bonus if they were Linux certified. Once they do 
get comfortable with the role they will be on an call rotation once 
every 3 weeks. They ideally want this individual become their head 
Systems Engineer.

Linux certified and Wireshark is highly preferred. Bachelors degree is 
required. On call rotation, one week every 3 weeks - if they are on a 
vacation then they can trade with someone else.

• Engineering of systems administration-related solutions for various 
project and operational needs.
• Document system designs and architectures using tool such as Microsoft 
Visio.
• Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, 
peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in 
accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
• Install and configure systems which support infrastructure and/or 
Engineering Department activities.
• Install and configure systems which support infrastructure and/or 
Engineering Department activities.
• Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures and 
scripts.
• Contribute to and maintain system standards.
• Contribute to and maintain security posture of the system in 
accordance with AAM policies.
• Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated 
approaches for system administration tasks.
• Maintenance and Administration of Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM) hosts 
and Oracle Linux based virtual machines.
• Install and maintain security patches on the operational systems, 
which includes but is not limited to, Oracle Enterprise Linux, HPUX 
Systems, SUSE Linux, Red Hat Linux.
• Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and 
availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key 
processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying 
completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
• Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
• Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems 
and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, 
recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off 
site as necessary.
• Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
• Create, change, and delete user accounts per request as necessary.
• Provide Tier III/other support per request from various 
constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
• Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and 
communicate with impacted constituencies.
• Open support cases with external Vendors (EMC, Oracle, etc) when 
required.
• Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade 
administrative tools and utilities. Configure/add new services as necessary.
• Upgrade and configure system software that supports infrastructure 
applications.
• Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures and 
documentation.
• Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource 
optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as 
required.
• Coordinate activities of vendors responsible for maintenance of AAM 
systems.
