Linux Security: Open Discussion
Heartbleed. POODLE. Shellshock. Seems the last year was rather scary to be a Linux user / administrator. So are the claims of Linux security rubbish, or was it just a perfect storm of vulnerability disclosure? We'll have an open discussion about Linux and UNIX security using a modified "fishbowl" style of discussion. Is it time to throw in the towel on Linux Security? Can the Open Source / GNU development model really keep users and servers secure? The only guarantee is we'll have a lively discussion. Hope to see you there!

Raspberry Pi Wireless Intrusion Detection Systems
You're working on your company WiFi when suddenly your network drops and reconnects. Unbeknownst to you though you've just connected to a rogue wireless access point and now someone out there is sniffing your wireless traffic. Or the coffee place you frequent suddenly loses all wireless because someone decided they'd be clever and perform a denial of service attack on the wireless system. Or someone in your organization decides to put in a wireless access point so they can use their phone on the company network without oversight. Each of these scenarios can be mitigated with the use of a Wireless Intrusion Detection System. Chris Jenks will demonstrate a system he developed using multiple Raspberry Pi computers and a laptop to detect and report on the wireless activity in the area. With a little bit of tuning it can be used to detect rogue access points in real-time.

Chris Jenks is an information assurance professional, public speaker, published author, and information technology trainer. He has over 15 years experience in physical and technical security, network monitoring, network administration, and Unix and Linux administration. He is also familiar with network and digital forensics, incident response, and intelligence analysis.
