Here is an email from our contact at the library. Please note our next meeting is Monday June 2nd at the Dearborn Henry Ford Library 5:00PM - 7:30PM in the computer lab on the first floor. Do we have a topic yet? The computers have Windows XP with Firefox and VLC. Can we do a discussion on VLC? How about open source software that can be run on Windows XP. What would we want to have installed? June 18th, Wednesday, Tony's presentation on Internet Security 5:00pm - 7:30pm in the computer lab on the first floor. June 25th - Wednesday, 5:30PM - 8:30PM video and music creation and editing using open source software. Does anyone want to help me with this? July 18, Wednesday - regular meeting 5:00PM - 7:30PM. August 20, Wednesday - regular meeting 5:00PM - 7:00 PM. September 13, Saturday - regular meeting 11:30 AM - 2:30 PM.

Hi Gibson, I’m sorry that there was only one person in attendance last night. I think the weather didn’t help us out there. I’ve attached flyers for the next two workshops, please look them over and let me know your thoughts. I’m pretty sure I got the dates / times right. One change that we haven’t discussed is that I’ve booked the computer lab for your Internet Security workshop, rather than our conference room upstairs. That way if you want to show an install or need something installed we can do that. We’ll get the flyers posted and update the website today or tomorrow, and get flyers out to our locations once they’re final. I am happy for you to install any software that you would need on those computers, or we can get them ready for you. I was thinking all along that you’d want to install applications for your workshops. For example, for the video and audio editing, I am happy to get installed any applications that would be helpful for you there. Or, you can show people how to find the applications and how to download and install them. Your preference. Thanks!

Subject: RE: [BULK] RE: Dearborn Public Library agreement Thank you. The scanned copy is all I need. Ben was helpful. At one point I was attempting to connect my laptop to the projector. I needed a VGA video cable. He found someone (Steve?) who was able to provide the cable. We only had one person show up. But then, we also had a large, intense storm. Perhaps some people stayed home. The one person didn't seem to even know what he had signed up for. He had an iPad and was hoping to learn how to connect to it. He said something about the workshop that teaches people to download. I sat with him for an hour and forty five minutes. We talked about some of the problems he had. I provided all of the material I had planned to. I suspect he came out of the workshop with a better idea of how to handle his issues. His evaluation suggested that we have more hands-on. I don't know if we can provide hands-on with PC running XP and little software. Is there any thought you have on how we can use open source software on the computers? Can I have the students download software and install it? I see you do have some open source software such as Firefox and VLC. Do you have any interest in our club doing a workshop on these software packages? Are there any other open source software packages that are loaded on these systems?

Hi Gibson,
You’re right, we do have three people scheduled for tonight. We may get more today. We won’t cancel. Remember that the workshop will be in the computer lab on the 1st floor. I’m sorry that I will be unable to stay tonight. I have left some flyers for future workshops in the room, as well as an evaluation form. Please pass out the evaluation form to attendees and have them leave them on the table at the end of your presentation.
I have an IT person, Ben, who works evenings and will make sure that the room is open and ready. He will be down there at the start of the workshop, and will come down at the end to help turn off the pc’s, collect evals and close the room. You can use the library PC to present from, or if you prefer to hook up your own laptop all you will need do is move the video cable from the library PC to your laptop. If you need assistance with anything, Ben can be reached at x2864 from the phone at the instructor workstation.
I have attached a scan of the signed agreement, and will leave an original for you tonight. The library director is still concerned that we need to be more structured with the workshops, and is unsure about going forward with this in the fall. She wants to make sure that the library is benefitting from this agreement. I think once we get these workshops promoted, people will start attending and we’ll be fine J
Thanks and I hope everything goes great tonight!
Mark
PS - as soon as you select a date for the rescheduled workshop please get that to me so I can verify room availability and get promoting it.

I see we have 9 openings for tonight's workshop. Does that mean we have people signed up?
I'd be happy to provide the workshop for a small number of people.
Do we cancel due to the small sign-up or should we go ahead?

Which makes perfect sense, of course. We’ll have to alter that page to fit your workshops, too, somehow. I’ll work with the guy that manages our website.
Thanks
Mark

Hi Gibson,
Actually, we have had an announcement tile in our header for your program on the website for a little over a week now. I’m curious to know, where were you looking to find it?

I dropped off a revised agreement Friday.
I see the Facebook workshop is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday May 20th. I don'[t see any advertisements on the library web site. I'll plan to show up but I don't know that we have anyone coming.

Hi Gibson,
Thanks for this. I have a question regarding the June monthly meeting. This document indicates it’s June 9th but then says Wednesday – those don’t match. Will the meeting be on June 9th (Monday) or June 11th (Wednesday)? Also, if you could get a bit more detail for the June 18th and June 25th presentations, I would be happy to get a flyer together for them. Also, will you be needing any software pre-installed for the Open Source workshop on May 27th?
--Mark
PS – I did get the signed agreements you left here, thanks! I’m sorry that I missed you. If you are ever in again, you can ask them at the desk to call me, I’d be happy to come up if I’m in the office. We may need to re-sign the document since there’s that error with the June meeting.

Hi Gibson,
Sorry but I see another problem, actually for the Tuesday June 3rd we
have a conflict, the computer lab is not available that night.
Some other options:
June 5th, 10th, 12th, 25th, 26th
July - nearly any evening in July is open, Mon-Thu

Yes. we need the projector. WIFI would be good. The summer dates can
be weekday to avoid the closed building on the weekend.
I'll look at adding the items to the agreement.
