I had an IBM Thinkpad 600X  that would kernel panic in 15 seconds if an 
Ubuntu disk was put in it.  Every other distro worked fine.  I tried 
differet versions of Ubuntu as well, same story.  I ran SUSE and 
openSUSE in it, booted Fedora, Knoppix, etc.  But not Ubuntu.
