[mdlug] Duel in stall problem

Some notebook BIOSs interact with Linux in weird ways. Try increasing the
backlight brightness—it may just be turned off. As it is, Debian (SolydXK)
on my HP laptop turns off the backlight during boot (after GRUB); I have to
bump it up to see my login screen.
