Hi mdlug members,
As I mentioned at the meeting on Saturday, the Intelligent Ground
Vehicle Competition ( http://www.igvc.org/ ) is ongoing at Oakland
University this weekend and Monday. The IGVC is a challenge for late
undergraduate and graduate students to build self-driving vehicles that
navigate an outdoor obstacle course, and colleges from all over the world
come to compete for cash prizes. A lot of these robots are running Linux
and other open-source OSes since the two most popular robotic software
platforms (Player/Stage and ROS) were designed with Unix-like OSes in mind.
Monday is going to be the second day of the Advanced obstacle course,
which is when things usually get really interesting. They'll be doing
heats of the Advanced and Basic courses 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-4:00pm on
Monday. A map of where the event takes place is at
http://www.igvc.org/oakland.htm . It's only a couple miles from the June
mdlug meeting venue. If you have time to check it out, it's free
entertainment.
Thanks,
Greg Czerniak
