Hi All,

We had a very good discussion at the meeting yesterday about
the future of MDLUG.  Several things happened that sparked
this conversation.  We met at Michigan Network Services and
John said he would be happy to host us there for the foresee-
able future.  Gib announced that he is taking over as president
after Mat resigned.

There were several items which deserve special attention.
Please use this list for further discussion.

1)  We decided to meet at M.N.S. again next month, since we
currently do not have a permanent location.

2)  We would like further discussion about possible meeting
locations.  If anyone would like to propose one, please
research the feasibility and email this list.

3)  We will need to fill the Vice President position.  A
careful reading of the bylaws <http://mdlug.org/bylaws.html>
shows that it does not address vacancies for any reason
other than non-attendance.

3a)  I will send a separate message proposing an amendment
to the bylaws.  If it passes at next month's meeting, we
will be able to vote for a new VP immediately.

3b)  We need to find who would be interested in serving
as the VP until the January elections.  This can be discussed
on the list prior to the next meeting.

4)  We discussed communication and leadership in our group
and focused on the need for someone to help inspire the
membership.  We talked about a "cheerleader" who would
assign topics for meetings, make sure speakers are scheduled,
ensure the website is updated, and send upbeat email to the
list prior to meetings.

4a)  There was discussion about finding a volunteer to help
organize and inspire the group.  Perhaps this could be done
by a student who would like volunteer experience working
with a non-profit organization.  If anyone is able to
follow up on this, please let us know via email to the list.

Basically it is up to us to determine the future of MDLUG.
