I found my old 901 eeepc needed a refresh as the browser was quite out 
of date.  Went with Mint (Ubuntu).  I first tested it out with a "live" 
version of Mint on a USB thumbdrive.  Once I was sure that the h/w was 
supported I ran the install.  That was more than a year ago.  Still 
going strong.  YMMV
