I have an old Lenovo R61 (must be similar to Thinkpad T61p) laptop. When I
updated to Ubuntu 11.10 last Nov, it came with a unique problem of its own.
On booting up the Gnome desktop will not come up and the machine would just
hang in there. I had to login to a console (Ctrl-Alt-F1) and 'sudo service
gdm start'. I am still thinking whether I should try updating to 12.04 at
all.
