The problem is, most every RAID card manufacturer does thing
differently, so if your motherboard or RAID card dies, and
you have the disks attached to a new RAID card or new motherboard
RAID, you may very well lose all of your data.

And as we all know, hardware NEVER fails at a convenient time,
so you just might as well plan on RAID hardware failing at the
most inconvenient time.

Software RAID ensures portability regardless of the hardware
the disks are plugged into. It's slower, but you'll never
lose your data.
