Using Dropbox to transfer files still requires that the computer have
an internet connection. My desktop machine does not have such a
connection, at least not one that is reliable and useable for this
purpose.  Hence my requirement that the transfer be possible directly
between the two devices, *without* going through the internet.

Most of the time, the phone IS my internet connection.
