openSUSE 12.1 was just released last week.  I suggest giving that a try.

Also, look in http://download.opensuse.org/, especially in the repositories.

ALSO, when in the YaST Software Manager, click on View->RPM Groups.

There's a lot of software which is listed only under that tab.
