That freaking kvm switch that wreaks havoc with dmesg on my other systems was the culprit. Installation is in progress.

Subject: Debian install issue
Hello all,
I am attempting an install of Debian Squeeze. I have previously installed Ubuntu Server on this machine. During that install I had to boot the machine with the nomodeset boot parameter. Now with Debian that boot parameter does not work. Other boot parameters I have tried all to no avail are vga=normal fb=false vga=771 noapic noalpic. The graphics card is a Nvidia Gforce 3 with 128MB of ram. Various combinations of the above leave the machine hung with either a black screen or with selection screen still displayed. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
