I will look into that. But the network inclosures have embedded Linux.
I have one I just want to make it available. securely through a fire wall.

FreeNAS. Its a BSD install customized to be a file server with ftp and
ssh and web based administration. I think its just what you are looking
for. I haven't used it but I have her a lot of good.
