If you prefer KDE 3 over KDE 4, be sure to

1: add these repos:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE3:/NonFree/openSUSE_11.4
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE3/openSUSE_11.4

2: in yast -> software management  (or yast2 -> software management)
select the repositories tab, pick a KDE3 repository, and select
software from it, then repeat for the other.

Be sure to select the packages kdm3

you probably also want to pick the yast-qt package, because
yast-gnome has a horribly bloated interface --
individual package entries take a huge amount of screen real-estate,
not much information is shown in the primary picker window,
and you don't even get larger writing in exchange -- it's just
all wasted on empty vertical and horizontal whitespace.

3 edit these two files in /etc/sysconfig, and set the following values
[this can also be done through the yast sysconfig editor, but it's
simpler to just edit the files directly]

3A   in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager
DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm3"

3B   in /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager
DEFAULT_WM="startkde3"

You'll then have a happy KDE 3.10 system
