ASUS desktop MBs often support non-registered ECC memory which only
costs slightly more (Kingston ValueRAM) than non-ECC.  The only reason
to use a server MB is for registered RAM which is only useful for very
large amounts of memory.  A system management module can be useful for
remote control but it's not hard to work without one.

With NAS and blade servers "big-box" systems are rather obsolete.
