Gib,
My apologies for taking so long to get back to you; for some reason your message was in my spam folder. It won't happen again.
Thank you very much for sending the information along!
We welcome anyone to talk about anything hacking-related within reason, so I'd like to assure the MDLUG that any presentations from the wonderful list of ideas would be appreciated. Audience-wise, I think you can expect many inexperienced people, so introductory-level presentations about Linux and open source software might work well. On the other hand, if group members have particularly-cool projects, those are more than welcome too.
I don't know if any of your members would be interested in scripting up something based on our Catalog screen-scrape API, though I've made something of a toolkit: http://www.cantonpl.org/apis/WebPAC_Screenscrape_API.zip
The version of the screenscraper included in this kit is truly awful PHP code, but the live version works well and is available to query:

We have widgets for Windows and Mac OSX Dashboard, but none for Linux systems. Are any of your members familiar with screenlets or a similar Linux widget/gadget application? That might make for a neat demo. Just an idea.
Thanks again!,

Hi, my name is Gib. I'm the President of the Metro Detroit Linux User's Group (MDLUG.ORG).
I saw your Canton Computer Hack Day event information. I passed it along to several local user group email lists that I belong to. Hope that helps.
I have a long list of ideas that we came up with in one of our meetings. I'll have to dig that one up.
Here are some of my ideas of things I might be able to present:
1. Graphics software - summary of a list of free stuff.
2. How make $200 on the Internet (RENTACODER.COM).
3. How to build a bare bones, cheap, computer for $200 maybe $300.
4. Writing programs - code.
5. Area computer clubs and events.
6. Installing Linux (software).
I would need an electrical connection for my laptop, and if possible a projector and screen. Internet connection (wired or wireless) would be helpful. Although, I could present anywhere with no resources if needed.
