I too make sure that elinks is part of my standard install on servers.
Ironically, I find myself running "telnet <webserver ip> 80" and manually issuing GET commands all too frequently. :/

I like w3m for the same purposes; seems to format things a little
better. But either way, a text-only browser is a very useful thing!
