Some ideas here for collaboration between groups.
I think it would be fun to see what we can do to involve remote people.
VOIP, IRC and webcast.

no problem - I know I got it out on short notice. ;) Everyone is invited to join in every meeting. :) Because I'm short on time, though i often wish to get announcements out early, I'm often unable to. So, you can put the future dates into your calendar, & you'll know when the upcoming meetings are. :)

BTW, Bill & Neil & I were on IRC today. I didn't have time to get up to campus & use voip. Bill & Neil gave the standard moan & groan i'm used to hearing about how they like IRC & not voip. I gave them my standard reply: they're so last millennium. ;)

Neil (who teaches linux classes online, using voip, & has an asterisk server!) mentioned how he doesn't like being tied to the computer by a headset for 15 minutes. I suggested a bluetooth headset can solve that. :)

Hopefully Bill & Neil will be voip ready for next meeting (& mee too! ;) :) )

I'd love to hear more about that. :) Maybe at next btip meeting, Tuesday march 2, 8 days from today. I'd like to find out if mug or mdlug are interested in having voip meetings there locally. It would be great if they would schedule meetings simultaneous with BTIP, then everyone could join in. -- & how did it come up as an idea to give a talk about the BTIP global voice meetings??? What was the inspiration, & the goal/purpose for that talk? To just learn something new, or maybe to try to do your own voice meetings??

Also, in the MUG list, iirc, there was something about wanting to arrange speakers for live talks. If everyone meets at the same time, there is less work to do for everyone, in total, in arranging speakers. Or, in finding talk videos. I don't currently have time to reliably find & list talks 1 week ahead of each month. So, working together, & distributing that task, will enable a more reliable feed of talks to all our members. :)

I'll email mdlug & mug about that (ii can make time ;) ).

(er, actually, there's a special Lawrence Lessig meeting this Thursday, 3-430pm Pacific. everyone is welcome to join in. :) )

I hope you all can join in at the next meeting, Tues eve mar 2.

:)
