I just did a cost comparison on that. Any USB drive is equal to any
SATA + USB enclosure of the same size. They might be a few bucks up or
down either direction depending on the make and model and what is
currently on sale. But there is no real cost savings to either direction.
The big advantage to Drive + Enclosure is if you feel you will be
upgrading that drive in a reasonable amount of time. USB speeds are
going to prevail no matter how fast the transfer rate of the drive as
long as it is connected via USB.
