There always seems to be new solutions all the time for this. However, I
have found nothing as useful and simply as simply running KNOPPIX. I have
never had any trouble mounting any harddrive, even those that are physically
damaged. No problem saving necessary files, running scans etc., and a really
easy, fairly common UI that even novice Linux users can take care of.
In fact a KNOPPIX "windows rescue" was one of my first introductions to
Linux wich eventually lead to my fall in love with the Open Source movement.
