So I got to thinking: some people have been saying, the Chrome OS, if it materializes, will just be the chrome browser on top of the kernel and a new X client/server or NeatX or NX or whatever it's called. It won't be a fat client.

But won't other IT vendors, big or small, be able to take it and add to it and make it into a fatter client?

Advertise: "We took Google's OS and made it better"
Why do I ask? Take something like Catia. It wouldn't run in Chrome even if Dassault was willing to port it. Catia V6 is not going to be available for Unix at all. This is a blow for Unix and Linux because a lot of people use Catia.

But in my scenario, Linux finally takes off because other people are willing to build on Google's name. If Google doesn't mind. They could trademark it, like RH did with RHEL, but then someone can always do what CentOS did. unTrademark it and release it. Google has to realize this.

Then Dassault would have something to reckon with. Not to mention every other software vendor that so far refuses to port to linux.
