Hope you take this as suggestions, and not being critical:
Getting a gmail email address just for job searching might be a good
idea. If you post all over the place, gmail works nice to separate the
spam from your personal email box. Something like andrew.koper at
gmail.com would be awesome on a resume.
Specifying what city you live in might narrow some things down for some
employers. MDLUG is a pretty big area.
What does " my 12 IT career" mean? Makes you sound old and some people
might say "lacks attention to detail".
"My depth of experience would benefit most employers" may sound better
and keep the "protected class" (old person without a job) out of the
topic and consideration.
Be optimistic, and say what your dream job is....you might just get it.
Sorry to say, I placed an ad for a tech person for my company a few
months ago, and got HUNDREDS of responses. Michigan and especially
Detroit is a tough place to get a job these days.
I'm a firm believer in TARGETING a resume for each and every job
opportunity so that it matches as closely as possible the job offering.
Sending me a "generic" resume doesn't do much to separate you from the
chaff. Take the time to customize your foot in the door, and skip the
buzz words. Tell me why you "eat, drink, and sleep" the job
description. Skip everything else. If I want to know more, I'll invite
you to an interview.
I sometimes laugh at "I'm a hard worker".....I'm looking for the "I'm a
smart worker that will make the company money" instead. "Reliable"
sounds better than "hard working" to me.
It seemed wierd you said Perl, but in the same sentence said "some
Linux"....are you doing Perl in Windows or just not that good at Perl
was my impression.
I do think posting on the Linux LUG sites is an excellent idea. I
always give extra credit to an applicant that mentions "Linux" on their
resume. Bonus points for "evangelist".
I'll try to keep an ear out for any jobs you might be a match for....
