I have two Magic Jacks. Here my experience:

1. Gotta have a windows machine to set it up (Linux maybe in the future
but not now)
2. Machine does not have to be running in order to use Magic Jack
service. Calls are immediately dumped into voice mail.
3. Voice mails are forwarded to a designated email address as an audio
file (forgot what type--does open in Linux)
4. No issues using with DSL from ATT. Calls are clear and work
surprisingly well, aside from the windows aspect. :)
