[mdlug] Just another windows rant.

So, on Sunday, I play one of few games I have that don't run well under
Wine. (Couldn't play on the PS3, the wife was watching her shows. :-> )
Boot up XP and play for a while. All seems well, and I shut the computer
down and go to bed.

Monday night, I figure I'll play a bit more. I try to boot into Windows,
and it freezes with a black screen. Huh. Try to boot into safe mode, the
system locks up showing that it's trying to load "JGOGO.SYS". So, I boot
into Ubuntu... no problem, except I note that the NTFS partitions weren't
mounted. When I try to mount the C: partition, I discover that they weren't
unmounted cleanly.

I search on JGOGO, and find a few things to try. Renaming the JGOGO.sys
file (from Linux) doesn't work. Restoring the file and trying to use the
Recovery Console doesn't work. (The administrator password isn't what I
recorded, either - I think that's a mistake and not a virus or anything,
though. Either way, the Linux "chntpw" utility makes quick work of that.)
Crud. Well, fine, I do a repair install. The thing *still* won't boot.

Through all this, Ubuntu's working fine. Guess I'll have to reinstall
Windows from scratch. Good thing I only use it for games. :-/

 Sincerely,

 Ray Ingles (313) 227-2317
