no experience with their hd tuner appliance but i did have one of
their "cachecards" in my series 1 tivo.  Which, i guess was linux
so the answer to your question is "yes".  

It worked as advertised, mostly.  

it clearly did what it said it would do (cache the tivo's database
partition in RAM on the card).   But, the process that had been
disk i/o limited became CPU limited pretty quickly so was still
not exactly blindingly fast.

the network interface portion of the card worked flawlessly.  This
was the primary reason i bought it in the first place.
