Remember Gates' infamous letter back in the late 1970's?

Yep.

What I see over the horizon is Microsoft getting some
severe blowback from their cultural illiteracy.

1: Russians aren't used to copyright law, or even
patent law impeding their ability to use ANY intellectual
property that's available. The USSR had no copyright
system, and they patent system was in place SOLELY to
protect the ability of the government to demand
licensing fees for things foreign producers of Soviet
inventions (and that's not just AK-47's).

2: Russian business community doesn't mind foreign
companies doing business in Russia... AS LONG AS THEY
LEAVE THEIR PROFITS INSIDE THE COUNTRY. Businessmen
who don't want to reinvest the profits withing Russia,
or use it to increase employee pay, or at least keep
the profits on deposit in Russian banks, soon find
themselves in a one-and-only encounter with the real
Russian mob. And I'm not talking about the overblown
paranoid fantasy of the western press (which is based
on the confused pronouncements of the middle-aged,
suffering from Soviet-era thinking that defines any
businessman who makes an after-payroll profit as a
menace to society) I'm talking about people who
are willing to murder...and will make quite intricate
plans...worthy of any movie script... but only if
there's at least several hundred grand to be gained
by the crime).

3. Remember what they did to that spammer 2 or 3
years ago (My Russian-language spam dropped by over
50% a couple days later).

4. The Ukrainian mob is even more violence prone
than the Russian mob, and for smaller financial gain.
