I realize this is a long shot,
but it is the only way I can so far explain the symptoms.
By any chance do you have a backup copy of the script in the directory?
e.g. /etc/init.d/rc3.d/S22getmyip~
Such a backup, as may be produced by vi, or emacs (without a .deleted
directory) might not include the most recently added '..' and would
be started immediately after the intended script, but fail due to
resource contention, and flush to the log earlier.
Is the game afoot?
