VERY broadly speaking, for most DB applications, if you have to
choose between CPU cache and more main memory, choose more main
memory.
Next (or perhaps *before* main memory) choose faster hard disks,
and/or a faster RAID controller.
If you're sure you'll have enough main memory & fast enough disks,
more CPU cache can't hurt.
Probably, though, a better buying strategy would be to try your
application on the hardware you already have and see where the
bottleneck is.
