[mdlug] Linux root exploit

Wow, didn't think I would be attacked for my comment. This exploit, if I
understood correctly, grants access to the root account. My question was
whether or not this exploit would work with the root account completely
locked (I.E. password file going to nologin). Per the group's response to my
comment the exploit gives the user access to id=0 not necessarily the root
account, am I understanding correctly?
