In the sense that it stopped you from testing for the vulnerability,
it is a bad thing.
The fact that the compiler could not compile the source code,
is unrelated to whether or not your kernel has the bug.

If you were told that your home furnace might have a defect that risked
explosion and were mailed a device to test the furnace,
the fact that you didn't have the right size batteries for the test
device would not be reason to believe your furnace is without the
defect.

What the compiler error?
  Was it a link error?
    Missing library?

After compiling and executing the exploit, I could not read root files.
My SuSE kernel does not have the feature reportedly exploited.
