"Fedora Core" is no more. It's called just "Fedora" now, since version 7.

CentOS is definitely worth checking out. I just installed the x86_64
version of CentOS 5.1 on my new AMD64-based mobo, and it's been great.

Slackware is another one to try. I've got 12.0 on a spare machine and
it seems pretty good.
