[mdlug] Sad state of schools but hope may be with students

I most certainly can believe that such rank stupidity exists within some
teachers.

I have personally experienced more than a few handfuls of teachers who have
exhibited such viewpoints and general ignorance of Information Technology.

One "shinging" example is an "instructor" I had at OCC for an Introduction
to Web Systems class. It was essentially a how to use Dreamweaver course.
The man was the most pig ignorant person that I have ever interacted with.

He actually told a story about how it's wise to use the right kind of fonts
on your webpage and then went on to tell the story about how his page looked
great on his computer, but the fonts were different on his girlfriend's
computer, which messed up the page's layout. So, he attempted to fix the
problem by buying her a new monitor, only to discover that wasn't the
problem.

He went on complaining about how he really disliked Dreamweaver and really
wanted to be teaching the class Frontpage, because "Microsoft is the best
thing in the world!" but he was forced to teach this class Dreamweaver. He
was happy that his other classes covered Frontpage.

This vile example of an instructor even proclaimed to the class that nobody
in the course would be receiving an A. The best grade he would ever give is
an A-, because he *knows* that nobody can ever be "perfect". This attitude
of his was something he lorded over the entire class for the entire
semester.

He really was clueless and believed that only Microsoft Products were usable
in the "Real World".

I have personally interacted with similarly clueless individuals and quite
frankly, it is perfectly believable that there exists such an instructor as
described in that Slashdot lniked article.
