It sounds like you have something like this:
http://tinyurl.com/5g4yaz
http://www.leviton.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?section=11641&minisite=10027&Filter=Y&jfn=ZGD28E3B1FC568B764B6181C9059DFCAB2148141AD308A53F44A829C814CEDA35F6C7051C4D918924631C4648EC6F5F38E80&oas=xzO1BMM40a6wVXtd5dTjmQ..
and what Ron is suggesting is this:
http://tinyurl.com/5agxvo
http://www.leviton.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?section=10371&minisite=10027&Filter=Y&jfn=ZG4E26A9D4D72018A9E8DE310FCFBD9E23567794257551E5BB746AADC7767C61AB95386DD3FAE348EF2EDA78D7F982F9AA14&oas=ca0u5A0SuMngOXVvz9zV4w..
which looks fine for $25.
You don't actually need to rewire - presuming that the wire is CAT5
or better, you can run 100Mbps ethernet on two of the pair, and
your voice line(s) on the others.
1GE requires all 4 pair - if it's CAT5E and you're willing to lose
the phone jack you can do that too.
i'll assume you want 100M and the phone.
Your wall jacks are probably fine, but make sure that they are cat5 rated
also. The data jack may need to be repunched.
let's say the bottom jack will be phone and the top ether.
for twisted pair, an RJ45 jack is wired like this (ORange, Orange/White,
GReen, BLue, BLueWhite, etc):
___________
----- | ----- | -----
OR OW GR BL BW GW BR BW
100M enet uses the orange and green pairs.
a single phone line will use the blue pair; a dual-line jack will use the green
pair also.
Of course, the colors per se don't matter, they are just a coding
standard for which pair goes to which pins on the RJ45.
See how your existing wall jacks are wired. If you're lucky, one is wired to
the orange and green pins and the other is wired to the green & blue pins.
i bet they're both on green & blue, so you'll have to repunch one of them to
match.
Leave the other jack alone, and leave the appropriate two pair punched to your
telephone panel.
pull the other two pair out of your telephone panel, and as necessary strip away
some insulation to give yourself room to work.
take the other two pair and punch them to the data punch panel, matching the
wire color to the jack color like you did on the jacks.
This article explains the general idea, and has some pics:

For tools, i'd suggest you avoid the expensive punchdown tool at
home depot, and just get something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/DataShark-70034-Non-Impact-Punchdown-Tool/dp/B000KMFDZ0
or even this:
http://www.milestek.com/shop/product.asp?id=40%2040302&cid=&kwd=&l=&p=
Or borrow one.
if you have more questions drop me a line, it's probably better to talk
on the phone.
