Alt-Return works for kopete.  Thank you.

It is, but for short interactive discussions, the latency of E-mail
(~1-30min) makes it impractical.  The analogous need in a conference
room setting would be the ability to sketch pseudo code and C fragments
on a whiteboard.

I prefer email, but IM use is the local custom.

Kopete is a front end for Yahoo! Instant Messenger, ICQ, AIM, and
several other 'talk(1)' channels

Datafile transmission requires generating the image, attaching it,
saving it (upon receipt) and openning it.  Doable but inconvenient.
More critically, the !unix user doesn't know how to cut-and-paste
between text editor and their agent, is already overwhelmed with
"new stuff", and not yet ready for handling attachments.
