[mdlug] OT: Replacement battery for Dell Laptop

Not that I'm recommending this to anyone, as you would need to be pretty good with a soldering iron to prevent damaging the cells... but if you are good, you could buy the replacement cells for your pack, exacto-knife it open, replace the cells and super glue it closed. I did this with an IBM A31p battery and it works quite well now, but I paid about $32 for the cells, and a new battery was $50. If you're not doing it just for kicks like I was, then it might not be worth it. I have heard rumor that some "smart" batteries need to have power applied to them at all times, or the EEPROM will reset. Also, some "smarter" batteries may actually need a tool to "reset" the battery stats in the EEPROM before it will hold a charge again.

And that's my useless 2 cents :)
