Valve was founded by former M$ engineers.  Their games are extremely
popular.  The closest to a native Linux game they've gotten is a Linux
dedicated server - never a client.  The server was probably easy since
their original Half-Life game years ago was based on ID Software's
Quake engine which was already cross-platform.
