 Thanks for the tips; I was able to update the BIOS (up 10 revisions,
actually) but it didn't change the behavior. It's funny; when it first boots,
it doesn't work, half the screen is Ubuntu orange. If I ctr-alt-backspace to
kill the X server, though, it comes back up fine. OpenGL is accelerated. Gltron
and Planet Penguin Racer run fine, but it's not quite up to BZflag, at least at
any sane resolution.

 It seems to lock up on shutdown, too, as reported in a couple threads. I have
to hold the power button down or yank the power cord to get a complete shutdown.
Still, there are a few options I have yet to try; we'll see how it goes. In any
case... hey, free laptop.

 (BTW... I was actually slightly lucky on the install. I've since discovered
that there can be a race condition if my Ubuntu box is acting as a DHCP server
at the same time as my firewall. You have to PXE-boot, then go disable the
second DHCP server before the installer tries to set up the network.)
