Aspartame is a mixture of amino acids, so it has a tendency to break
down pretty quickly, especially at room temperature and higher; the
breakdown end-products tend to taste pretty nasty.  More of the
current and new soft drinks are now using a sucralose/saccharine
blend, which tends to be more chemically stable and taste better.
