I don't know about the geek part, but I'll throw in my $0.02 for the
tools. I'll second the vote for Craftsman hand tools. I have quite a few
in my bucket. I do add to that with hand tools from Klein, Crescent,
Channelock, Rigid. Most of these can be had at Sears and Grainger. Some
can only be had at wholesalers. I must second the vote for good quality
tools, power and hand. Others have gone into detail on what hand tools,
I'll second that. For power tools I prefer Porter Cable, Hilti, Bosch,
Rigid, Reed, etc. It depends on what, for example I would never buy a
Rigid drill but I wouldn't buy threaders from anyone else. For hammer
drills Hilti is tops but I wouldn't even consider buying cordless tools
from them. I get these from Marsh Power Tools, Hilti, Fasteners, Brock
Tool to name a few.
