Bash, the standard GNU tools, and Zenity can do wonders.

Ohhhh... You meant like for fixing up and building stuff around the
house or such?

Well, I'm not a very experienced DIY-er, but trying to learn.  Aside
from all the obvious standard things, one thing I find indispensable is
my Leatherman Wave multi-tool. With that, I often don't even need to get
out the toolbox. Another real nice thing I have is a T-shaped ratcheting
screwdriver. (The handle is the horizontal of a capital T; this allows
you to twist while keeping your wrist straight. The interchangeable
bits are held in hexagonal holes through the handle.)
