[mdlug] network appliance cracked?

Hello, has anyone ever heard of a network appliance being cracked?   If root is not able to do rootly things, that's a very bad sign, right?   And yet, it is only one of three network appliances that is mounted on a solaris server, which appears to be fine.   Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.
