Yes, I do have a copy of Vista. Needless to say, I'm very underwhelmed
by the lack of functionality from an "official release" product. It
looks a lot cooler than XP, but that's about it. Driver support sucks,
and I guess I could blame the vendors for that, but then again - it's a
system that doesn't even backward support drivers that were practically
made last week.
Anyway, aside from my complaints, I can use Windows when I have to. I
installed it normally using a 60-gig partition, leaving the rest of the
drive free. After using it for a day or so, I installed Ubuntu, manually
partitioning the rest of the drive in the installer. It installed
without a hitch, and recognized Vista with no problem, so I'm prompted
for a few options in GRUB without even touching it. After using Ubuntu
for a bit, I thought I'd access my "multimedia" drive. Well, I can't.
It's a "dynamic disk" that I apparently converted in Windows, and you
can't convert it back without destroying it (if that's not innovative
... wait, it isn't at all in fact). There is patch support in linux, but
I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and move the data to another drive,
and then back again.
So in case you were wondering if it could be done, yes, and very easily
might I add. I've read many pages saying that you have to do this a
certain way, and that a certain way, but it just worked for me. I kinda
feel like my machine is now half good and half evil, except I'm in
control either way.
