Tux Mag is/was run by the same people that run Linux Journal.
and FWIW a magazine is an expensive beast to run.

These people sound.... uh... financially retarded. I hate to be so
brutal about it, but that's what it boils down to. They were going to
be a print mag in the first place, and I was going to subscribe, and
then they came out and said, "Forget that, don't send us money, we're
going to be online and free". Then, just recently, they announced that
"free" was ending, but that longtime "free" subscribers" would
continue to get the next year for free. Now, just a few issues later,
they're packing it in for (surprise, surprise) lack of money. Well,
what do you expect when you keep refusing to take the stuff?
R.I.P. Tux Magazine... You will be missed.
