Subfs was SuSE's way of mounting removable media of all types during the
9.? thru 10.0 era. (This is something they keep dicking around with
GRRR!) Subfs was a pretty good way of dealing with removable media, it
allowed users to eject media at will with no hard, as long as a write
wasn't in progress at the time.

Your system's root partition certainly shouldn't be mounted subfs!
Posting a copy of your /etc/fstab might help.
