Have you cleaned the drive lately? If it's that old, it could very well
be bad, but I'd try a cd cleaner before I pitched it.

Also, if you're into gambling, you can try updating the firmware. I had
an old JVC drive that would start making coasters after about 6 months,
and reflashing the firmware would fix it for another 6 months... damn
bit moths!

Can anyone i nthe general area of Dearborn burn me a working copy of
Fiesty Fawn Kubuntu?  I can't seem to get a working disk out of my
burner right now.  Either my media is aged out or the burner itself
has.  I will gladly pick up same.

Second, is they any method to test said burner for correct function?  
I'm going to get some fresh media, but the burner is a moderately used
2003 model and it may have burned it's last disk.
