     Thanks all.

     One other thing I forgot to include: same questions about POP3 
and SMTP. Probably I would expect
the mail itself to travel in the clear; and the password to be 
protected. (The built-in mail client of my
Zaurus cannot be used with Gmail for this reason.) But what about the username?
