I use XFCE on older systems because of it's lower memory requirements.
 But it's lack of integrated SMB browsing is a significant problem for
peer-peer setups.

I used KDE on Mandriva but have switched to Gnome.  The latter is
easier for n00bs and I need to be on the same platform as my
"customers".  My mom still uses KDE because I set her up with Mandriva
originally and she doesn't want to change.
