As I mentioned at the meeting today, I've been having trouble connecting to a
certain computer from my laptop when I'm at my dad's house. My laptop is a
Linux system running kernel 2.6.14.5, and I'm trying to connect to my system
at home, Linux, running kernel 2.6.x. My dad has a Wow! cable-modem
connection with a Belkin FD5231-4 hardware firewall/4-port switch between it
and the network. The Linux system I'm trying to connect to is connected
directly to a Comcast cable-mode, and has a domain-name provided by
dyndns.org. Among other systems, my dad has a Windows XP box with Cygwin
SSH and Internet Explorer.
I can log in via SSH, and view the Apache website on my server, from my
dad's Windows XP box. I cannot do either thing from my laptop while
connected to my dad's network. I can access every other website I can think
of (yahoo, Wayne State, slashdot...)
I checked the logs on the Belkin firewall, and didn't see anything relating
to my laptop's IP address. I saw something about a "SYN flood attack" from
an internal dynamic DHCP address (probably my sister's laptop) with a date a
couple weeks ago.
I can run TCPdump on my laptop. I don't see the traffic to/from the XP box,
because it's on a different port of the switch. Here's what I see if I run
ssh and wait a couple of seconds:
17:34:25.821116 IP 192.168.0.7.50009 > mail.wayne.edu.imaps: . ack 509593 win
32767
17:34:47.419039 IP 192.168.0.7.52484 > ramoth.ssh: SWE 3649070327:3649070327
(0) win 5840 <mss 1460,sackOK,timestamp 515388669 0,nop,wscale 2>
17:34:50.418878 IP 192.168.0.7.52484 > ramoth.ssh: SWE 3649070327:3649070327
(0) win 5840 <mss 1460,sackOK,timestamp 515389419 0,nop,wscale 2>
Any ideas what's wrong?
