Hmm. We frequently have more than one person logged in, up to three in
fact. (Me, my wife, and my oldest son. Pretty soon it'll be four...) We
use Ubuntu's "switch user" functionality. So far as I can tell, it's using
extra X sessions already. Might have to tweak that parameter to startx a
bit for such a case.

The x11 version? Yuck. To quote from the old Quake HOWTO: "Hardware-
accelerated OpenGL Quake is Quake the way God intended it to be. There
is no substitute, and once you've experienced it there's no going back."

The "darkplaces" Quake engine works quite well for me. Took a bit of
tweaking to get it going but it looks lovely.
